5 Ways to Connect the Right Power Cable

To be fair, the correct cable installation is one that does not use a connection or is installed in its entirety. However, in some situations, there may be several factors that require you to connect the power cable, here are some good and correct electrical installation procedures that can be followed.

Why do you have to follow certain procedures?

The reason is because there are risks that occur when connecting cables:

  • Cables that are not connected properly may cause the electrical connection to be disconnected at any time.
  • Sparks may arise from the electrical wiring connection. This can trigger the risk of fire due to electrical short circuit.
  • A poor connection can causes electrical shock or an electric short circuit.
  • Electrical cables that are connected carelessly can reduce its function and are prone to other damages.

Well, here are some good and correct techniques known worldwide for connecting cables.

1. Pig Tail Connection

Pig tail connection is usually used to connect the device to the circuit system. However, you can also use this technique when you need to extend a circuit wire that is too short by joining two wires together. Pig tail splicing is fairly easy to do, as it is the most basic way of connecting wires without the need for a soldering iron. You simply connect the two ends of the uninsulated cable to form an X, then take it and twist it with your finger if the conductor is fibrous, if the conductor is single (solid) then twist it with pliers and the like.

2. Britannia Connection

The Britannia connection is a technique used to connect wires that have a large diameter, which you would have difficulty twisting with your fingers. To connect the wires with this technique, you will need a small copper wire that serves to secure the connection. First, lay side by side the two wires that have been sheared for insulation two inches long. Then bend both ends outwards. Then the last step is to wrap a small copper wire in the cable connection, make sure the winding meets both sides of the cable and the middle so that the connection does not come off.

3. Straight Connection

Straight connection is suitable for use in the type of cable with a fiber-shaped core. To do this technique, you will first need to cut the cable insulation two inches long. Connect the two wires with the fibers together, then take one end of the fiber and wrap it from the middle to the edge. Do the same for each fiber until they are all wrapped around the cable joint completely.

4. T. Connection

Unlike other techniques that connect cables by joining the two ends together, the T-connection actually connects the wires in a unique way to produce a shape like the letter T. This type of connection usually consists of one main cable and one branch cable, both ends of which are needed to distribute electrical energy to the two different lines. That's why to use a T connection, the end of the main cable will be connected to the middle of the branch cable, not the end. To connect the cables with this technique, attach the ends of the main cable to the center of the branch cable that has been sheared off the insulation, then twist the main cable core to the left and right sides of the branch cable core until it sticks perfectly.

5. Western Union Connection

The western union technique is usually used if you need a cable connection that is neat, strong, and doesn't break easily even if you accidentally pull it. The first step you have to do when using the western union technique is to connect the two ends of the cable that have been cut the insulation to form the letter X. Then twist the cable core until the two are wrapped around each other. Then finally, lock the cable connection by making a tighter loop using both ends of the cable core on each side.

These are some of the techniques for connecting electrical cables that are quite commonly used. It is very important to learn proper wiring techniques, especially if you frequently repair the electrical system in your own home without the help of a qualified technician. With the right connection, it basically helps protect the distribution of electrical energy in your home from electrical system failures that can cause various hazards such as electric shock or fire.
