How to Make a Socket and Install It at Home
Power is transferred from the power supply to the socket, which serves as a connecting point for electronic equipment. By making a socket, you will have an easier, tidier, also safer electricity access. When the house's walls have not yet been constructed, making sockets are typically placed in the wall. However, you can still construct it on the walls if your house are fully constructed, of course with an additional protection. Here are some tools and materials needed to make a new socket at home.
- 4-hole socket (according to needs)
- NYM cable 2x1.5 mm2
- Electrical Insulation Tape
- T-Dus branch 3
- TC3 Protector Cable
- Bolt
- Fisher
- Cutting Pliers
- Cutters
- Screwdriver +
- Test pen
Steps for making and installing a socket
The following are the steps for making additional cable outlet lines on the wall:
- Determine the installation position of the socket. Ideally, the recommended distance for installing the socket is 150 cm from the floor.
- Make a path to place the cable protector on the wall.
- If the position of the socket has been determined and the path has been made, the next step is to install the protective cable by removing the insulating cover on the back, then attaching it to the path that has been made on the wall. Make sure the wall is clean from dust and dirt.
- Turn off the electricity in your house and recheck using a test pen. After the electricity has been turned off, we can already connect the cable to the socket to the voltage source.
- The cable connection is carried out in the T-Dus to protect it from rat bites and the risk of short circuit.
- After completing the cable connection process, insert the cable into the cable protector that is already mounted on the wall, then attach the cable protector cover.
After the cable line is ready, it's time to install the socket with the following steps:
- Install the socket on the wall with a screw then screw it in with a screwdriver.
- Install the cable according to the slot, the left slot is for the phase cable (+) and the right slot is for the neutral cable (-), regardless of how the installation is modified, while the middle slot is used for grounding or safety cables.
- Make sure the cables are properly and securely connected. Check by pulling the cable slowly. If the cable connection is not disconnected, it means that the socket is ready to be installed.
- Next, turn on the house's electricity again and check to ensure that your new socket can be used and function as it should be.
Those are the tips for making and installing additional sockets on the wall of the house. You may now save money on installation fees because you don't need to hire a qualified professional to do the work. Please keep in mind, when making your own socket, always pay attention to safety factors by turning off the electricity first and making sure the cable connection is installed in the right slot.
