A famous annual habit of the Indonesians is to gather with their extended family in their hometown during Eid. However, when you leave the house for a while, you need to make sure that the house is safe and protected from all kinds of unwanted occurrences, such as fire or electrical disturbances. The following are some tips for maintaining electrical safety in your home when you go homecoming for Eid.
The very first thing you need to make sure is to turn off all electrical equipment such as TVs, air conditioners, refrigerators, computers, lights and other electronic devices before leaving the house. This is important for you to do because even a small incident such as a short circuit can cause a fire. Don't forget to remove the plug from the wall outlet to ensure that electronic equipment is not connected to electricity.
Check all electrical cables and sockets at your home, make sure they are in good condition to avoid the risk of short circuit. Before leaving the house, replace any broken cords or wall outlets that are apparent if they aren't already fixed. This will prevent fires and ensure that all electronic equipment left behind is in good condition.
Also, do not leave power cords that are too long or entangled in other equipment. This can cause the wires to overheat and start a fire. Make sure the cable is not connected to a voltage source when leaving the house for a long time.

In order to prevent all the bad things that might happen when you leave the house, you can install an additional electrical safety device besides the MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker), namely the ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker). The ELCB serves as an additional safety function to cut off electricity when a short circuit or leakage current occurs which can cause a fire or other electrical hazard.
During homecoming, you can still leave the house in bright light. You can turn on some lights where they need light so you don't become a target for anyone with bad intentions. Smart lights can be set to turn on at a specific time whenever possible.
Even though you have done everything you can to prevent electrical problems from occurring, you still need to report to your nearest neighbors that you will be going for a long time. You can ask for help from neighbors, head of neighborhood association, or trusted relatives to check the condition of your house when you leave. By doing this, you can ensure that your home remains safe during the Eid holiday.
